Cinco de Mayo Celebrations!

Hello there and Happy Cinco de Mayo! Growing up in Central Minnesota, I never really got the significance of Cinco de Mayo, but now that I live in Southern California, the significance is not lost on me. For those that are unsure, it's the day the Mexican army defeated the French at the Battle of the Puebla in the Franco-Mexican war. To learn a bit more about it, has a great video and article here

Cinco de Mayo Celebration!

one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine

To celebrate the "Big Win" Mexicans and Americans throw giant parties, with margarita's and mariachi's and sombrero's! They eat, they drink, and they are definitely merry till the wee hours of the morning!

Figuring out  what to wear to such a fiesta is quite possibly the funnest job ever. Mexican culture is all about the color and as a color enthusiast, I didn't hold back!

Choosing a bright skirt like the Studio Midi Skirt in Citron is the perfect way to start your outfit off with a bang! Loving the look of the midi-skirts this season. Loving it (you'll hear more about my skirt obsession shortly).

Then pairing it with something neutrally colorful adds a bit of color-glam to your ensemble. I love this Au Fond We Flamingo Together Tank for that. It's white, light, and has the cutest damn flamingo's I've ever seen.

Next, we move on to shoes and accessories. Remember that fedora you got a while ago? It's time to take that puppy for a stroll! Don't have a fedora? Grab the Panama Hat from Accessorize. Pair it with a sleek pair of aviators like the Alex Aviators in Gold from Fossil for a sunny day or even the bright stage lights you're bound to be dancing on later in the night. As for jewerly, I like to keep it simple. Adding a minimalist chain necklace like this one from Target adds just enough without being over the top. Although, if you want to go over the top, I suggest you do it. It's Cinco de Mayo! Anything goes. The All Bright Already Wedge is just about the best way to do rainbow shoes ever. The stripes on the side are just enough to say, HEY! Look at me! Without going all Carebears.

I've only included a couple beauty items in this look, but the quality is definitely making up for quantity. Add a "just pinker than my lips" shade like the Clinique ColorPop Lipstick in the shade Sugar Pop to the lip and a fantastic coral like the Model's Own Polish for Tans in Beach Bag will accentuate your fabulous-ness.

And finally, where are you going to keep your junk? Definitely in the Limited Edition Palm Tree Print Purse from River Island. Ladies, if you're in the UK, you'll already know of River Island, but if you're stateside, you've probably not heard of them. Well, I'm here to tell you that since visiting the UK in 2009, I have dreamed of returning to River Island. It's just fabulous and this purse is the perfect bag to carry along for your Cinco de Mayo celebrations!

At any rate, I sincerely hope you enjoy your celebrations today and remember, don't do anything I wouldn't do.
