Are you with me?
one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight
First of all, if I were going to an "adult prom" today I would want to look, clean, classy, and timeless. No ridiculous makeup, minimal beading on the dress, no "peek-a-book" cut outs like you see so often in prom dresses today. Just a dress that is clean and wearable. Both the Darcy Maxi Dress in Silver (which looks a little more like a silvery-nude in my opinion) and the Maisie Maxi Dress in Navy have little hints of detailing, but both offer clean lines and the timeless look I'd be going for.
Since moving to Southern California, I've found myself at several gala-type events and if there's one thing I've learned from attending them it's that you need to be comfortable, confident, and able to stand for long periods of time. So investing in good shoes is an absolutely must. If you aren't sure you can walk in them when you buy them, you won't be able to walk in them after standing in them for 2 or 3 hours. The Aldo Fevia Platform Pump in Beige is a great option for a simple, elegant, heels with a touch of bedazzle. On the otherside, the BCBG Paris Jaze Metallic Pump in Silver is a nice, easy shoe to wear with really any color dress, but I think that it would be stunning with any navy blue.
For every good woman, there is an equally good bag. Whenever I'm going to an event, I like my bag to be small enough to carry around, but large enough to fit my touch-up makeup, cell phone, driver's license, and ibuprofen. (Oooo, I think that's a blog post there!) The Georgiana Embellished Hard Case Clutch Bag and the Satin Bar Envelope Cultch Bag in Navy are the perfect size for your night out. PS, how amazing are these? They've both made it on my Christmas list for this year.
Finally, I couldn't do this post, without at least mentioning the makeup. Last Friday, I went to an event and was checking out everyone's makeup. Ladies, listen, there's a time to do a cat-eye, and there's a time to leave that in the bag. If you don't know how to do a cat-eye, or if you're going to an event to raise money for neonatal intensive care, it might be time to leave the cat-eye at home. Just sayin' there's a time to rock it, and a time to leave it at home. [End Rant.] Anyways, I am absolutely obsessed with the Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella. It's a fabulous red, and hello, it's named Cruella. We've already talked about my obsession with cleverly named things. The Clinique ColorPop Lipstick is going to be in a beauty haul/favorites post soon, but in a different color than featured here. The color here is Beige Pop and it would be absolutely lovely with a navy dress.
Ok! That's what my version of prom would look like if there were an "adult prom". I'd love to hear about what you all wore to prom as teenagers. Post a photo below if you have one!
