Cooking with Emeril



Have you ever seen the movie Julie & Julia? If not, it stars Amy Adams and the Meryl Streep. Adams plays a down and out 30-year-old who cooks her way through Julia Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking. Streep plays Julia Child...and is amazing. It's a great, feel-good, movie. Watch it.

I ask you this because I recently acquired a new cookbook by Chef Emeril Lagasse called Essential Emeril and this is one of those cookbooks. The kind that you pick up, page through and want to start cooking through. The very first recipe I made out of this book was homemade Gnocchi with Vodka Cream sauce. I made homemade Gnocchi, and it was delicious. You guys, I can't cook. I legit took online cooking classes to learn the basics. I'm really not that good, and I was able to not only understand the recipe but actually execute it.

I was entirely impressed.

Emeril includes a few good stories, as well as a ton of great recipes that are broken down and explained in a manner that even a beginning can understand. I will tell you, these are not recipes that are quick and easy. These are Sunday-night dinners. But if you're on the hunt for a new cookbook, give this one a read. I loved it.
