Working Out to Work it Out

As many of you know, or maybe none of you know, I've been losing weight and working out for just about 9 months. I wish I could tell you that I've learned a ton about myself and yada, yada, but I'm going to be honest here: I've already lost all this weight once and learned a lot about myself the first time. That's not to say that I haven't learned some things this time, but definitely not the sheer amount as last time...make sense? Maybe?

Moving On...

The big difference is that I've finally found a routine that is adaptable enough to make me actually want to work out at least four times a week, versus last time where I dragged my butt to the gym four days a week just because I thought I had to.  Here's what I've got going on.

Monday's are such a tough day at work and for life. The last thing I want to do is go some place other than home when I'm done for the day. So, instead of heading to the gym, I've made Monday's 'Yoga Monday's'. I head home, change into comfy clothes, play with the dog, and then sweat it out on the yoga mat. For those of you who don't think yoga is a sweaty business try this video.

Tuesday is the first gym day of the week. This is where I go to the gym, jump on the elliptical, and run full tilt until the cows come home, or I've watched every one of Jaclyn Hill's new video's.

Wednesday is a break day. After two days of serious working out my body needs a break and I probably have a ton of stuff to catch up on. So, instead of pushing it, I take a much needed break and hit it hard on Thursday.

Thursday is really a crap shoot. Sometimes it's back to the gym, other times it's another yoga routine, but lately I've been loving a good cardio workout from Ballet Beautiful. This is exactly what it sounds like (you do ballet). I've always been a sucker for alternative ways to get some cardio in, and this one fits the bill nicely.

Friday is a free day. If I feel like going to the gym I will, but generally I skip it for things that are generally more fun....like watching Harry Potter or date night (hey yo!).

Saturday morning in my weigh in day. Since I'm an early riser, I'll usually get out of bed around 6:00-6:30am (gasp) and head to the gym to get a good cardio workout in. Then I'll weigh in and see just how good I actually did this week.

Sunday's are my no-holds-barred you-are-not-going-to-the-gym day. I don't care if I actually do want to go to the gym (ha!) on Sunday's it's a no go. I believe in balance. And that means that you have to make sure that not only are you disciplined and are taking care of yourself physically, but you have to take care of yourself mentally as well. Making the gym a no-fly zone on Sunday's for me is my way of saying 'High five self! You made it through another week.'

There you have it, that is my current fitness routine. I'd love to hear if any of you have suggestions for fun ways to work out. I do plan on adding swimming and running to my routine before too long, but that will come with time. Stay fit everyone!
