Nursery Inspiration

Every once in a while I like to do a design post...and that generally coincides with me actually doing something to my home, or someone I know doing something to their home. It's been a while, and since we've got a baby on the way, I thought I'd let you in on some of my plans for the nursery.

When I start considering a room to design, there's a few things I do in rapid fire succession.

1. Identify the furniture
2. Narrow down the wall color
3. Think about Artwork
4. Refer to some inspiration

That is Jeff Lewis' baby nursery from last year. Whoa right? Here's what I loved about it: it's clean, it's easy, it's natural, it's neutral without being beige. Only Jeff Lewis can have essentially an all-white-ish room and put that artwork over a crib and have it work. I think it's got everything to do with the polka dots on the walls, I'm not sure if they're painted or if that's a wall covering of sorts, but I really loved this one.

This is a corporate photo from Target promoting the new Nate Berkus nursery line. First of all, I imagine that if Nate and I ever met, we'd be design-buddies because we share a lot of the same philosophies (check out his book The Things That Matter). I love this because again, it's neutral, it's clean, it's simple, and it's not beige. This could be for both a boy or a girl and still pull off the look.

Here's how all this worked out in my brain:

As of right now, the only thing I'm not sold on is the crib color. I'm thinking I might actually like it gray better than the espresso which is a surprise because most of our house has espresso furniture...Maybe it's because we finally found out we're having a girl, but I think I want it more light and airy.

Once the nursery is done, I'll definitely post a reveal photo for you guys and talk you through where I found the stuff I found. But right now, this is where I'm headed.
